Tax on miles driven per consumer

The last update I received on this was that taxing motorists on the miles they drive would not happen, but apparently this has been extensively explored to the point of considering equipping motorists with a GPS unit to monitor it. Pretty scary thought, huh? I agree with the author of the article at the link below -that would just be a segue into monitoring even more of our activities. Aside from that, what a way to boost the economy. Taxing the miles that people drive would likely hit sales people, truck drivers and delivery drivers the hardest. So, the next logical step would be to raise the prices they charge, and in turn the manufacturers will have to raise the price of goods to accommodate this. You see the snowballing effect this would have, which would make groceries even more riciculously expensive for the already struggling consumers.

Let’s put aside for a moment the clear fact that Obama has no clue what he’s doing -who would consider such an absurd tax? I guess it would create jobs, though. Think about how many people it would take to ensure tax payers purchased a GPS and had it installed. Not to mention all the GPS units that would have to be produced, as well as individuals to install them. And what about all those auditors monitoring whether or not the milesge was reported accurately and the taxes paid?
