Yesterday I heard snippets of rhetoric from the White House regarding Obama’s latest self-proclaimed success (thanks to his stimulus package): that he “saved or created” some 150,000 jobs and plans to “save or create” some additional 600,000 jobs in the next 100 days.

I’ve quoted the term “save or create” for one reason only. It is an unmeasurable quantity when you think about it. And, in thinking further – if they taught economics in Journalism School… shouldn’t the media catch this as well?

One could use the term “created” when speaking about jobs, as long as you could tie it to new payroll additions. That, of course, would be backed up by hard data.

“Saved” jobs – what measure is used? There is none.  Other agencies in the Obama regime – Labor Department, Treasury Department, Bureau of Labor Statistics – use objectivity not fantasy when speaking about jobs data.

What are the facts that the mainstream media seems to ignore? (Maybe, it is because of the lack of economic education in journalism school curriculum.) Is this a success indicator of Obama’s stimulus plan? Keep in mind that Obama and the liberals in Congress promised you that this package would keep unemployment below 8%.

• Bureau of Labor Statistics reports unemployment rate is 9.4%
• BLS data indicate that the average unemployment rate for 2008 was  5.8% (The average unemployment rate under the Bush presidency (2001-2008 was 5.3%)
• The US has lost an estimated 1.6 Million jobs since the Obama stimulus took effect

With concrete facts available, why is the mainstream media fawning all over Obama when he says he “saved or created 150,000 jobs?” That doesn’t even scratch the surface of reality.

When will the press wake up and stop misleading America?
