Please help save savethatdog.org

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I’m posting this in hopes that readers -especially the dog loving readers -will either help, or pass this blog around to those who may be in a position to help save a wonderful non-profit organization, Save That Dog at www.savethatdog.org.

This is a dog rescue that is a no kill facility, and also is a no cage facility. Dogs rescued that come to this facility are allowed the free run of the 130 acres. Katherine Fraze, the Director, is committed to finding good homes for the rescues, and they stay with her until they can be properly placed. In the meantime, the dogs have a job to do, and that is to be therapy dogs for foster children and for the elderly as well as hospice patients. There are even four of the hurricane Katrina dogs at this facility who are enjoying their new home and the friends they are making.

Unfortunately, the mortgage crisis has hit this facility as well. Katherine’s facility has been tied up in the court system, and now she has 10 days from today to raise $10,000. I’m placing this out there for everyone to see, and hopefully help out. Donations can be made through Pay Pal, or by clicking through on this link http://www.savethatdog.org/help_us.html.Even if a thousand people gave $5 each, she would be halfway to her goal of funds necessary to get her out of foreclosure. After the 10 days, she will be subject to a sheriff’s sale, unless she can come up with $91,000.

Thank you for your time in reading this, and any assistance to this facility will be much appreciated.

Genealogy: Reconstructing the family tree through DNA

Monday, October 8th, 2007

The country is becoming more and more obsessed with tracing their family history. While this can be very interesting and entertaining, it can also lead to disturbing finds. For example, what happens if a child starts tracing their roots, only to find out they were adopted as an infant. Or, consider finding out that you’re related to some beast like Hitler. I’m sure most family histories aren’t this eventful, but be careful before you venture out there. Of course, you could very well learn your an heiress to Elvis Presley’s Graceland, or that you’re the illegitimate child of Prince Charles.

We’re tracing some family history right now, and while fascinating, it hasn’t turned over any stone that should have been left alone, so that’s good. We are still searching for evidence that my one sister-in-law was switched with another child at birth. No one in our family is that kooky, so we’re hoping there’s a clue to the insanity. In the meantime, we’re comforted by that old test: 1 out of every 4 people are crazy. If you’re in a group of 4, and everyone else looks okay, you’re the one. In this case, everyone is looking at my sister-in-law -she IS the one. Heck, we could be in a group of 100, and she’d still be “the one”.

Anyway, if you’re interested in reading more about this form of family reconstruction, check out this link below, and don’t forget to visit Sensible Life Magazine. Our new issue will be out soon!
