Please help save savethatdog.org

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I’m posting this in hopes that readers -especially the dog loving readers -will either help, or pass this blog around to those who may be in a position to help save a wonderful non-profit organization, Save That Dog at www.savethatdog.org.

This is a dog rescue that is a no kill facility, and also is a no cage facility. Dogs rescued that come to this facility are allowed the free run of the 130 acres. Katherine Fraze, the Director, is committed to finding good homes for the rescues, and they stay with her until they can be properly placed. In the meantime, the dogs have a job to do, and that is to be therapy dogs for foster children and for the elderly as well as hospice patients. There are even four of the hurricane Katrina dogs at this facility who are enjoying their new home and the friends they are making.

Unfortunately, the mortgage crisis has hit this facility as well. Katherine’s facility has been tied up in the court system, and now she has 10 days from today to raise $10,000. I’m placing this out there for everyone to see, and hopefully help out. Donations can be made through Pay Pal, or by clicking through on this link http://www.savethatdog.org/help_us.html.Even if a thousand people gave $5 each, she would be halfway to her goal of funds necessary to get her out of foreclosure. After the 10 days, she will be subject to a sheriff’s sale, unless she can come up with $91,000.

Thank you for your time in reading this, and any assistance to this facility will be much appreciated.

PETA’S NEW AD CAMPAIGN COMPARES TEEN PREGNANCY TO ANIMAL BREEDING.

Monday, July 21st, 2008

PETA’s recent promotional for sterilization of pets attempts to get the message out to viewers that not sterilizing your pets is likened to encouraging your teenage daughter to have sex constantly and with anyone and everyone, and if they get pregnant, so what. Abandon the baby. (See ad and story at the link below)

This message is not only in the poorest taste, it’s a ridiculous comparison. Why pour financial resources into such trash, when they could be using it to educate pet owners and offer to pay completely for sterilization for those who can’t afford it. Often people jump into getting a pet without considering the financial aspect of owning one, and as a result, they put off sterilization.

Here’s a thought. Instead of trying to get their name in the media through harassment of people like the jockey, the trainer and the owner of Eight Bells that died in the Kentucky Derby this year, or protesting the treatment of chickens by throwing fake blood on high profile individuals, try actually putting finances toward something that will make a difference.

Obama, McCain & Pets -interesting survey

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

I’m a pet owner, and love animals, so I tend to take the same position. People who own pets know what it’s like to consider the feelings of another and take responsibility for something. Kids will cause a person to exhibit the same traits, but it takes someone really special to manage family and pets, while keeping everyone happy and healthy like the McCains.
