BORN IN THE USA?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Contribution with permission from TROGLODAD at http://troglodad.blogspot.com posted on 2/20/2008. I’ve been away the past week and had not heard this news tidbit yet.

BORN IN THE USA?

Okay, did I hear right this morning on the news? Someone is challenging whether or not McCain can run for President, because he wasn’t born within the physical confines of the continental United States?

Oh, good grief.

John McCain was born on a US Military Base in the Panama Canal Zone, August, 1936.

To American citizen parents.

That makes him a natural born citizen!

Don’t believe me, check out current U.S. Code:
http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode08/usc_sec_08_00001401—-000-.html

The following shall be nationals and citizens of the United States at birth:
(c) a person born outside of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents both of whom are citizens of the United States and one of whom has had a residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions, prior to the birth of such person;

I think this argument makes about as much sense as the crazy people that claim there’s no law requiring U.S. citizens to pay an income tax. (There is by the way: it’s the 16th Amendment to the Constitution).

Or of maybe disbanding the IRS. (Who would collect the taxes then?)
Did Ron Paul come up with this?

Request for prayer: Northern Illinois University shooting victims

Friday, February 15th, 2008

I have copied below a message from Sensible Life’s Editor, Lisa Greer. This same message appears in her Editorial on www.sensiblelife.com, and I felt it was an important one to get out to my readers as well.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this shooting, as well as with their families.

~Gracie

Once again, a gunman appears on a college campus, opens fire on a mass of students, then turns the gun on himself (story at the link below)

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/02/15/university.shooting/?iref=mpstoryview

I will never understand how someone can be so enraged, so sick mentally, that they can perform such a random act. When these things happen, we empathize. We know that on any given day, one of our friends or family members could meet with the same fate, so it hits home hard in our minds; then we pray. We pray for the victims and their families after the fact.

Today, I’m calling for all those reading this who pray, to pray every day for every school campus from k-12 through college. Pray these campuses be protected and those attending will be protected. Pray that anyone affiliated with any of these campuses who possesses the potential to destroy students, teachers and innocent bystanders will be discovered and dealt with before they snap and go on their killing spree. We do preventative medicine on our bodies, preventative maintenance on our homes and cars, why not preventative prayer?

Won’t you join me today in prayer?

Matthew 18:18-20

18″I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be[d]bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[e] loosed in heaven.

19″Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.”

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY -send a free e-card to someone you love

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Sensible Life would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentines Day! If you’d like to send a free e-card from a trusted site to someone you love, check out the free e-cards at www.hallmark.com. If a free card sounds inappropriate, think about this. The less you spend on something that will most likely be discarded eventually (like a card or other paper product), the more you’ll have to spend on dinner, flowers, jewelry, etc. Most of all, spend time with your loved ones. Memories from spending quality time together will withstand the test of time.

Don’t forget to visit our newest issue of Sensible Life Magazine at www.sensiblelife.com. We have some great articles for Easter decor, recipes for that great comfort food, soup, and we have some tips on how to get free stuff.
