1 Timothy 4:12 (New International Version)
12Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
Previously, Sensible Life wrote about the elderly. This issue, we want to emphasize what youth can do and illustrate their importance in this world.
Below, we have provided links to stories of fundraising efforts and a story of great courage –all from children who have not yet reached their teen years.
So often, children are not taken seriously when they have lofty ideas and goals, but our first story is about 11 year old Michala Riggle who has a brother with autism. Click on the link to read her amazing story of how she started raising funds for autism with $7.35 seed money in 2006, turning that into $100,000 in just six months through selling beaded bracelets she made.
To date, Michala has raised over $350,000 for autism research from her bracelet sales.
Our next story is about 4 year old Ella Cordrey who watched the devastation in Haiti with her family. They decided to do something to raise funds for the people affected by this disaster, so Ella has taken to baking and selling cupcakes. She has even set up a stand outside their home to sell cupcakes to the neighborhood. She has raised over $600.

Our last link is a story about 5 year old Simon Hughes who came face to face with an 800 pound alligator in the marshy water on the edge of his parents’ property. Simon didn’t flinch for a second, but rather in a brave act pummeled with alligator’s head with birdshot, killing the massive reptile.

These are just a few of the many stories of children across the globe who are making a difference in the world through the things that touch their hearts, or the tragedies they are faced with. Celebrate and appreciate children. Every child has worth and something to contribute in this world.
